Alpha Olefin Sulfonate (AOS)

AOS (Sodium Alpha Olefin Sulfonate) is a high-performance anionic surfactant commonly used in cleansing products. It produces a rich, stable lather, effectively removes dirt and oil, and leaves a clean, fresh skin feel.

It works well in products like shampoos, face washes, body washes, bubble baths, and facial cleansers.

📊Usage Rate

Recommended range: 3% – 30%, depending on product type

Facial cleansers: 3% – 10%

Body washes: 10% – 20%

Shampoos: 10% – 30%

⚠️ Higher concentrations can be drying to the skin if not combined with moisturizing agents or amphoteric surfactants like Cocamidopropyl Betaine.

⚗️Formulation Notes

• Works in a pH range of 5.5 – 7.5
• Combine with amphoteric surfactants (like betaine) to reduce irritation
• Stable in a wide variety of formulations
• Add during water phase, can be heated (up to ~60°C), but best added below 50°C to preserve consistency
